Cartagena de Indias, venue of the XXIX Latin American Congress of Ports, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, and it has the only Historical World Heritage Site certified in sustainable tourism destination.

The ‘Heroic City’ or the ‘Walled City’, as Cartagena is known brings together the charm of colonial architecture, the excitement of a vivid night life, fascinating cultural festivals and lush landscapes. The city’s beaches beckon, inviting you to unwind and enjoy yourself in the refreshing breeze and warm waters of the Caribbean Sea. It also offers a wide range of accommodation options, including colonial and boutique hotels and major international chains.

Cartagena de Indias is home to a fascinating mix of cultures with a huge variety of culinary delights to suit every taste. The local seafood and tropical fruits serve as the main ingredients for the cuisine, which blend with the many cultural influences that this city has –Indigenous, Spanish and African–, in order to give the local gastronomy a magical tasty edge.

An invaluable historical and cultural allure

Unique culinary treats

This fabulous destination holds the secrets of history within its walls, on its balconies, and in the narrow stone walkways that inspired author Gabriel García Márquez, who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982.

The 11 kilometers of walls that the Heroic City holds, are always open and willing to offer beautiful moments full of history, nature and romance. Starting at 5 pm you can see from these walls how the sun slowly meets the Caribbean Sea, an unforgettable portrait of a sunset.

Over time, Cartagena has developed its urban area, preserving its historical center and becoming one of the most important ports in Colombia, the Caribbean and the world.

Framed by its stunning bay, Cartagena de Indias is one of the most beautiful, well-preserved cities in the Americas; a treasure that is currently one of the most visited tourist destinations in Colombia.
