AAPA LATINO 2022 will once again recognize Excellence in the Port Industry

10 August 2022

The main continental event in the port sector will be the occasion in which the prestigious award of AAPA and the CIP-OAS will be granted, to which port complexes across the continent that have had innovative or outstanding practices in the last year can apply.

Thirtieth edition of the Latin American Congress of Ports of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA), which will be held in Santos, Brazil, the prestigious award of AAPA and the CIP-OEA will be presented for the second year. The award seeks to recognize companies and port complexes that have had innovative or outstanding practices in the last year.

In this way, the "Award for Excellence in the Port Industry" adds to the attractions of the most important port event in the Region, which includes an outstanding agenda of conferences, different networking spaces, business roundtables and instances of dialogue between the public and private sector.

"Through the establishment of this award, we wanted to demonstrate the importance of maritime-port activity as an engine of social and economic development of our countries, and at the same time provide the opportunity to recognize those ports in the Americas that make outstanding efforts to constantly improve their practices on issues regarding sustainability, infrastructure, technology and relations with their environments, among other dimensions," said Rafael Diaz Balart, Coordinator of the Latin American Delegation of AAPA.

In its 2022 edition, AAPA and the CIP-OEA invite all ports that contribute with their actions to the economic and social prosperity of the region to apply, emphasizing that any terminal or port complex with operations in any of the OEA member countries, in North America, South America or Central America and the Caribbean, are welcome to apply.

CATEGORIES

The categories in which ports may be eligible are: Technology and Innovation applied to logistics operations; Port Infrastructure Development, in terminals that have expanded or improved their facilities; and Public-Private Partnerships, for initiatives that promote the generation of strategic linkages with actors in the sector.

To select the winners, the organization will prioritize actions that have contributed to improve the efficiency and capacity of port complexes; have had economic benefits and multiplier effects to local and/or national economies; have improved the competitiveness and strengthened the cooperation and integration with key players in the port industry to promote operational sustainability, among others.

The jury will be composed of members of the Latin American Delegation of the American Association of Port Authorities, the Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee on Ports (CIP-OEA); as well as experts appointed by AAPA-CIP, who will decide which port cases best represent excellence in the sector, which will be announced on October 19th and awarded on November 30th, during the AAPA LATINO 2022.

"We are inviting all ports in the region to present practices that they consider relevant to share as significant contributions adding value to our activity, which today represents more than 90% of what our countries trade with the world. In addition, the fact that the awards will be presented during our Latin American Congress of Ports, in the presence of the port industry leaders, adds a value that should be highlighted", closes Rafael Díaz Balart.

In its 2021 edition, 26 ports and terminals of the continent competed for the “Port Industry Award for Excellence" which was awarded to Kingston Wharves Limited (Jamaica), Compañía de Puertos Asociados, COMPAS (Colombia), Santos Port Authority (Brazil) and Terminal Internacional del Sur - TISUR (Peru), in its different categories.

HOW TO APPLY?

Ports and terminals interested in applying must submit their background information and application form before September 26th.
