OFFICIAL PRESENTATION OF THE XXIX LATIN AMERICAN CONGRESS OF PORTS
October 12th, 2021
On October 7th with the presence of Captain Alfonso Salas Trujillo, Giovanni Benedetti, General Manager and Commercial Director of Grupo Puerto de Cartagena respectively, and Zulma Dinelli, General Director of AAPA LATINO, the Latin American Congress of Ports was launched officially in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. The 2021 edition is convened by the Latin American Delegation of the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) in strategic alliance with the Grupo Puerto de Cartagena and produced by PR Ports.
Every year, more than 400 port leaders and international experts make this forum stand out as the most important business gathering of the industry. Three days of technical sessions serve to present and discuss major international port projects. In addition to this, the event provides intense social and networking activities, a technical port visit and a prominent space destined to commercial displays, in which the most representative industry suppliers participate.
The comeback event
This edition will be special because last year it had to be canceled due to the pandemic, so this time the attendees will meet in a context marked by resilience and the labor, technological and operational challenges that marked a unique 2021 due to the effects of an extraordinary situation both in terms of maritime freight and in logistics and in the role that ports play, precisely, as key actors of the regional foreign trade interface.
“We want to thank and congratulate AAPA for the effort to hold this Congress in such a particular context," said Alfonso Salas Trujillo. In turn Rafael Díaz-Balart, AAPA Latin American Coordinator, subscribed to Salas Trujillo´s words.
“This is the comeback event. Nothing replaces the face-to-face relationships. We strongly believe that this event will be the best that has been held in Latin America so far. For AAPA Latino and PR Ports – the company that produces the Congress-, every edition is unique, but this occasion is special, because the host is a leading port placed in a city of excellence that serves as a unique environment”, highlighted Dinelli, General Director of AAPA Latino.
As it is well known, the Academic Program is characterized by the quality of the speakers, where the main leaders of private terminals, governmental authorities, specialists in maritime & port economy, technology, security and different services related to the industry meet in round tables and panels.
Among the varied panels, the dialogue between shipping lines and port terminals stands out for the presence of the main maritime companies and port directors, where both share points of views and debate on common challenges and particular goals to maximize operative efficiency and gain market share.
Furthermore, senior officers from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will provide detailed information on how the economy, the movement of containers and foreign trade evolved in each port of the region, with updated statistics.
The exhibition area is the place where assistants can visit the different booths from companies and ports. In this edition, a big delegation from Brazilian ports will be present, due to Santos will be the host port of the 2022 edition.
Port terminals, dredging & software companies, simulators among other companies will have their place at the exhibition area in the Hilton Cartagena Hotel, where assistants can network and do business.
“We want that this event leaves a leadership message to the logistic and port community, about what it is expected for the next 20 years”, highlighted Dinelli as well as she also mentioned the technical visit to Port of Cartagena, which will have place on November 29th and the Program for Companions, as other milestones of AAPA Latino.
